Event Poster & Official Program

The official program (12:00pm-1:30pm) will begin with a Call to Come Together by the Ottawa River Singers and an opening prayer from OAC Elders. From there, we’ll hear welcome remarks and take time to recognize the important healing work happening in our community, especially around the Inuit VAW Shelter and Family Healing Lodge initiatives. The program includes cultural performances, a Jingle Dress ceremony, and the honouring of Karen Green with a scholarship announcement and blanket ceremony. We’ll close the event with an Honour Song from the Hand Drumming Group.

We acknowledge the gift of being on Anishnabek territory and specifically on Algonquin Territory. We want to recognize the two closest Algonquin First Nation communities: Kitigan Zibi and the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan. We also recognize that today - Ottawa is a gathering place for First Nations, Inuit and Métis from across Canada. This land acknowledgement commits us to the original relationship we were building together – through friendship and peace.
