A Message from the Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition
Every year, the 10 Indigenous service organizations that make up the Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition have the privilege to deliver a wide range of services to 20,000 of the 40,000 Ottawa Indigenous community members.
Each Christmas we organize hampers, gifts and people to ensure that Indigenous community members, especially the Elders in our community, are cared for during this season of light and peace.
During COVID, over the last two years, the OAC organizations would pivot with each change, providing services and programs – while grieving the loss of community members to COVID and overdoses; through the discovery of the unmarked graves in the second year of COVID and that continues today; and through the Occupation, this February, on the streets of Ottawa where we were prevented from providing services including food to Elders and basic needs to community members on the street.
As we enter our third Christmas since COVID came into all of our lives, we are asking for the help of the broader community to support the OAC organizations and ensure that every Indigenous person in Ottawa who has a need this Christmas is seen, connected with and shown that they are loved and valued.
Each organization has developed a list of their needs. Please go to the OAC member logo below and give what you can. And in the spirit of reciprocity, take time this holiday season to care for yourself and your loved ones.

The Centre serves Inuit children, youth and their families in the southern urban setting of the City of Ottawa. In partnership with parents and the community, we foster strong Inuit children, youth and families by providing a learning environment that will enhance children's overall well being, adaptability and strength in a proud Inuit cultural environment.

Kagita Mikam extends employment and training services to all eligible Aboriginal peoples living in Ottawa. Kagita Mikam was established in 1991 to provide a cooperative working relationship with the Indigenous and local communities, organizations and associations.

Makonsag Aboriginal Head Start offers a culturally-enriched learning environment for Aboriginal preschool children. Our teachers offer children love, acceptance and understanding while fostering the growth and development of each individual child.

Minwaashin Lodge provides a range of programs and services to First Nations, Inuit and Métis women and children (regardless of status) who are survivors of domestic and other forms of violence, and who may also be suffering the effects of the residential school system. All programs and services are provided in the context of cultural beliefs and values to ensure a holistic approach is used as part of the healing journey.
Donation Needs:

The Shelter will need 12 shoeboxes for 12 women. The shoeboxes would be filled with Candy, Hairbrushes, Hair ties, Toiletries, Socks, Scarves, Gloves and Tim Horton's Gift Cards

The Shelter will also need 20 Pyjamas and Slippers for 20 men

The Sacred Child Program will be providing 300 + Gifts for children and youth. Possible gift items include: Toys, Clothes, Stuffed Animals, Books, Legos, Youth PJ's, Hoodies and Blankets

Minwaashin will also be hosting a Spa Day on December 12th and are requesting items to make 40 baskets. Possible items include pots/pans, fryers and other home goods

The Employment Program is seeking gifts for 50 women. Possible gifts include Computers, Mouse Pads, Mouses and Headphones

The Centre is requesting Tim Horton Gift Cards valued at $25 for 40 women

The Centre is also requesting Grocery Store Gift Cards valued at $50 for 25 women

The following items are always welcome to support families: Diapers (size 6) and Newborn Diapers, Wipes and Baby Formula

Bus Tickets, Taxi Chits and Craft Activities are also welcome as they support regular Programming

The Odawa Native Friendship Centre (ONFC) is a community-based organization that has provided resources and support to urban Indigenous families for nearly 45 years. ONFC delivers culturally relevant programs and services that empower and build the collective capacity and self-sufficient of Indigenous families in the Ottawa Region
Donation Needs:

The Centre is currently seeking 250 Grocery Store Gift Cards in $100 and $25 denominations for individuals and families. 50 - $100 Gift Cards and 200 - $25 Gift Cards are needed.

The Centre is also requesting 245 Walmart Gift Cards in $25 denominations for families with children

For Community Members experiencing homelessness, the Centre would like to provide 130 people with $100 in $25 denominations. Gift Card suggestions are Tim Hortons, McDonalds etc.

Tewegan Housing for Aboriginal Youth is a 12 bed transitional home for First Nations, Inuit and Métis women, ages 16 to 29, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Tewegan offers a safe, culture-based environment, confidential counselling, and life skills programs.

Tungasuvvingat Inuit is an Inuit-specific service provider that provides social support, cultural activities, counselling and crisis intervention as a one-stop resource centre to meet the rapidly growing, complex and evolving needs of Inuit.
