Inuuqatigiit Centre for Inuit Children, Youth and Families

Minwaashin Lodge

Minwaashin will be offering the following services throughout the Christmas holidays:

  • Christmas break services only: December 21, 2020 – January 4, 2021

  • Children’s Annual Christmas Giveaway – Thursday, December 17th, 2020 – toy bags – curbside (accepting new toys, gift cards until December 14th).

  • Minwaashin Lodge Sacred Child families 0-6 yrs – Food bank/Christmas festive meal – Thursday, December 17, 2020 – curbside – Many thanks to The Mission for all their support in preparing a delicious festive meal to our families.

  • S.T.O.R.M program will continue to run throughout the holidays.

  • Housing First/Outreach will continue to support women in crisis.

  • COVID Bi-weekly Outreach food bags/perishables - curbside drop off - December 3rd, 17th and 31st.

  • Crisis line – 24/7 - 613-789-1141. On call - Crisis support for youth/women/families in distress – virtual/text/phone – 613-741-5590 x 260

  • Warming centre – Pending. Minwaashin Lodge staff are available if open over the holidays.

  • Drop in for Homeless/Human Trafficked clients continue - Women’s Drop In – Mondays; Men’s Drop In - Fridays

Minwaashin Lodge will continue to remain in Stage 2 at 1155 Lola St site – December 1 – February 28, 2021.

Minwaashin Lodge will reassess COVID health indicators prior to moving into Stage 3 at that time. We continue to follow the guidelines and recommendations of OPH, the City and the Province. Clients who have face to face appointments continue to be pre-screened by staff before accessing specific in-house services.

Programming Updates:

  • The ‘outdoor access visits’ have ceased.

  • Limited - Scheduled indoor access visits for families will continue with support

  • Bi-weekly Sacred Child food bank and Emergency baby food cupboard – curbside delivery – December 11th, 17th 2020. Closed December 31, 2020.

  • Circle of Care – face to face meetings at Minwaashin Lodge (pre arranged in advance)

  • Parenting program - Virtual FB parenting group ends December 10th, 2020 – Starts January 21, 2021

  • Employment Readiness Program-Virtual training groups – Starts up again in January 2021

  • Bi-weekly Outreach food bags/perishables- January – March 30, 2021 - curbside drop off

  • Counseling team – NEW- Youth Counseling/Substance Use/Mental Wellness Counseling available -virtual/email/text/ and face to face sessions available (pre arranged in advance) with staggered work schedules in place

  • Children’s Therapy – Mobile van for 1:1 sessions for school age children – pending van access. (January?) – pre-scheduled 1:1 sessions at Minwaashin Lodge

  • Culture program - face to face groups of (6). Participants are screened and must register in advance

  • Crisis support for youth/women/families in distress – virtual/text/phone/

  • Doula Program - Aunties on the Road- phone support/video conferencing/emails/sharing school resources and online learning

  • Youth support- Google hangouts; FB support circles-closed group; email; phone/texting; crisis intervention; curbside wellness check ins; food security; back to school supports and future groups pending start date

  • Oshki Kizis Shelter site - Day/evening programs continue to deliver essential services with specific direction from the Shelter Director including Housing First; Outreach; and Street Outreach (STORM).

Many thanks to our wonderful Minwaashin Lodge staff, students and volunteers who continue to do the hard work necessary to support our families/children/youth/elders at this critical time.

Odawa Native Friendship Centre

  •  The Odawa Native Friendship Centre at Rideau High School remains closed to the public, until further notice

  • Closed regular holiday break December 19, 2020 .to January 3, 2021, will re-open January 4, 2021

  • Please contact your program coordinators directly at 613-722-3811 and enter their extension to reach someone if you are in need of assistance.

  • 510 Rideau will run regular hours throughout.

Tungasuvvingat Inuit

  • This year, instead of  Annual Christmas Gathering they decided to have an online event for the community from December 6th-12th. It will be a week long celebration with Facebook games and prizes, as well as fun draws, where Ontario Inuit participants can win anything from a Parka making kit, smartwatches, a handmade drum, and a 50” TV. They will also be having Facebook games just for kids 0-15, who can enter with the help of their parents. They will be giving away a lot of toys!

Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health

  • Mental health professionals are open for one-on-one therapy sessions both in person and over the phone
