Position Status: Contract until August 31 or September 30th 2024 depending on start date. Hours can be negotiated with a minimum of 20hrs to 37.5 hrs per week

Level: 2 Hourly Wage: $22.44 - $28.04

Position Summary:

In collaboration with the Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition and Kagita Mikam, United Way East Ontario co-hosts the Indigenous Employment Leadership Advisory Table (IELAT). The IELAT brings together Indigenous and non- Indigenous service providers, employers, and other key stakeholders to address employment barriers facing Indigenous youth and promote systemic change within workplaces so that they transform into more culturally sensitive and better places of employment that respect Indigenous worldviews and belief systems.


The Indigenous Employment Initiatives Coordinator position will be responsible for coordinating activities and meetings relating to the Indigenous Employment Leadership Advisory Table. This will include coordinating meetings with the co-chairs, supporting the creation of meeting agendas and the operations of network meetings, career information sessions, and other employment related events that support the relationships between employers and employment services providers who support Indigenous youth who are seeking employment. In working with the Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition, this role will also support their main Employment Hub website.


Reporting to the OAC Project Coordinator at the Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition and the Senior Director, Community Initiatives at United Way East Ontario, the Indigenous Employment Initiatives Coordinator will utilize their skills in relationship building, event planning and knowledge of the Indigenous community.

This position is a hybrid position and serves the region of Prescott-Russell, Ottawa, Lanark and Renfrew Counties.


Qualifications: 


Education

  • Diploma/degree in Communications, Marketing, Human Resources or Event Planning/Management or other

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year working in project management, event management and /or Human Resources, administration or customer service.

  • Minimum 1 year experience facilitating multiple stakeholders or volunteers in a complex environment.

  • Experience producing in-person and/or virtual events using Microsoft Team and Zoom as examples.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office/365, PowerPoint and Excel

  • Experience writing summary reports and/or briefs.

  • Customer service experience 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and relationship building skills

  • Project management skills with the ability to negotiate with internal and external stakeholder groups,including senior management and senior volunteers

  • Self-motivated, strong initiative and a ‘get it done’ attitude

  • Strong problem-solving and collaborative skills

  • Demonstrated time management skills, the ability to direct both activities and resources through toolssuch as a critical path

  • Ability to be flexible and stay organized

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Results oriented and a keen eye for detail

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and decision-making often under pressure

  • Excellent written communication skills in English
