Sacred Child Wellness Worker (female)

Position reports to:    Manager, Children and Youth Programs  

Location:                         2323 St. Laurent Blvd. Ottawa, ON K1G 4J8
Work Conditions:         Located in an office setting; very low/low risk environment 

Start Date:                       Immediate 

End Date:                         Until Filled

Summary:


The Sacred Child Wellness Worker role is to aid in the implementation of activities/programs associated with the Sacred Child Program. This position requires knowledge of family violence issues with emphasis on the perspective and needs of children who witness and knowledge/understanding of the holistic approach to healing through tradition and culture.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To work with the Manager to create a safe environment for the families and children

  • To provide emotional and practical support to abused women and their children

  • To help children learn, share and explore culture and tradition related to family healing

  • To maintain and update resource material

  • Responsible for Play Lodge upkeep, organizing and cleaning toys after each visit

  • Prepare Play Lodge for family meetings/access visits

  • To prepare art activities

  • To help with food bank deliveries and distribution to community

  • Prepare healthy snacks & meals for children participating in program

  • Implement cultural relevant activities and programs

  • Work in partnership with other City agencies to provide programs and services.

  • Accompany team members on outreach/ home visits/access visits

  • Maintain program statistics, provide written and verbal reports, conduct intakes, andkeep client files updated and current

  • Maintain records according to CAP-C requirements

  • Attend weekly team meetings and monthly staff meetings

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College Diploma in Early Childhood Education or equivalent combination of education and work experience with children

  • Minimum one-year experience in the field

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office

EMPLOYER PREFERENCES:

• First Nation, Inuit, Métis or non-status 

• Bilingual


EMPLOYER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current Criminal Records Check

  • CPR/First Aid Certification (willingness to train)

  • Driver’s License/clean driving record required for operation of Commercial vehicles

  • Personal vehicle with 2 million liability insurance an asset

  • Must be available for evening and weekend work as required.
