Exploring Inuit Culture Outside of Inuit Nunangat
University of Toronto is seeking a part-time Research Assistant to assist with a community-led research project in collaboration with Tungasuvvingat Inuit. This position will work remotely and can be based anywhere in Canada.
The research project will seek to determine the current landscape of Inuit cultural supports outside of Inuit Nunangat and define pathways to build and expand on best practices. Researchers will work in partnership with Tungasuvvingat Inuit and other urban Inuit organizations across southern Canada to explore Inuit access, across the lifespan, to Inuit cultural teachings, programming and practices outside of the four land claim regions. The project will investigate the barriers and opportunities to access cultural supports outside Inuit Nunangat and explore the impacts of cultural disconnection on the Inuit diaspora. In doing so, this partnership and its outcomes will provide Inuit organizations with the information they need to expand and tailor their services and supports to promote the health and wellbeing of the increasing numbers of Inuit moving south.
