It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit, and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
TI’s Education and Employment department serves to respond to the continuum of labour market initiatives from all levels of government and to educate stakeholders at Provincial Learning Ministries towards a more knowledgeable approach to the design and framework for Inuit Education in Ontario.
TI is searching for a skilled and experienced candidate to effectively manage TI’s Employment Services Programs. The incumbent will be a collaborative member of the management team, working with and supported by all departments within TI and will engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective and comprehensive client service delivery.
Key responsibilities of the position:
Communicate, create awareness, and promote TI’s Employment Services to clients, community partners, employers and other stakeholders;
Manage the Employment, Skills and Partnership Fund;
Develop the annual operational plan and work to meet the operational objectives and targets;
Develop work plans and timelines for projects and produce status reports with critical milestones;
Prepare reports for the funder on service delivery to clients and contribute to TI’s annual report;
Work with TI staff to develop proposals for consideration for long‐term sustainability of projects;
Work with Finance, ensure close monitoring and compliance with budgetary expenditures;
Facilitate on the job training, targeted wage subsidy and short‐term job creation initiatives;
Provide ongoing workplace support for the Inuit Qanuininnirmut Ikajuqtiit program participants;
Source, screen and engage with external service providers to deliver employment related programming and other services to TI clients;
Collaborate with Indigenous Employment Service Providers and Inuit Organizations;
Collaborate with other TI staff to harmonize and bridge client services, identify new project opportunities, develop partnership strategies; and
Establish and lead advisory/work groups for project tasks and facilitate group meetings.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of the Ontario labour market; the unique needs and issues impacting Inuit communities; Inuit culture and values; and employment barriers faced by Inuit. They will also have familiarity of employment and training agencies, programs, and supports for the Inuit community.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, financial management skills, information and project management skills and supervisory skills are necessary.
The ability to deliver presentations, coordinate meetings, events, and other engagement activities; prepare proposals, reports, and briefings; and use computer applications/programs (Microsoft Office, e-mail, and Internet) are all requirements of the position.
Post-secondary education in a relevant field and three (3) years’ experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: program management, economic/business development, training, employment counselling, business advisory services or another related area.
Two (2) years’ experience managing, coaching, and mentoring staff and/or leading a team.
Fluency in English is essential and ability to communicate in Inuktitut is an asset.
A combination of related education and experience may be accepted.
