Cultural Educator – Indeterminate – 10 months per year

Under the supervision of the Manager of Early Years, the Cultural Educator plans and delivers a high quality and culturally-based Early Years program.


• Encourages and facilitates Inuktitut language development in the children and staff;

• Collect, develop and maintain a wide selection of cultural teaching materials and activities for children in collaboration with other Cultural Educators;

• Participate in regular Cultural Educators meetings to share ideas, resources and activities;

• Identify and engage culturally appropriate guest speakers, Elders and resources for the program;

• Share in the responsibility of planning developmentally appropriate cultural activities that promote cultural knowledge (e.g. qulliq, cultural circles, traditional games, etc.);

• Assist in the completion of weekly programing for indoors and outdoors;

• Recognize and respond to the needs of each child;

• Identify and report on concerns, issues and hazards related to the safety of the children to Manager of Early Years;

• Actively participate in annual performance review process;

• Assist educators in observing and recording information on each child’s progress;

• With assistance from the Early Years Manager understand and adhere to all regulations of the Child Care and Early Year Act (CCEYA) (e.g. child/staff ratios);

• Participate as a team member in supervising children in the Early Years programs;

• With assistance from the Early Years Manager comply with all recording and reporting requirements outlined in Inuuqatigiit policies and procedures (e.g. daily log, incident reports, medication administration);

• Maintain program equipment in good repair and share responsibility for hygiene; and

• Sanitizing toys as required and outlined in policies and procedures.
