The Odawa Native Friendship Centre (ONFC) is a non‐profit organization serving the Indigenous community in the Ottawa‐Carleton Region of Eastern Ontario and surrounding communities.


The Vision of ONFC is to ensure a thriving and resilient community. Odawa strives to enhance the quality of life of Indigenous People in the Capital region; to maintain a tradition of community, an ethic of self‐ help and development as well as to provide traditional teachings from our elders.


JOB SUMMARY

The Creating Safe Spaces Project Coordinator, under the direction of the Director of HR/Operations, will be primarily responsible to act as an advocate and provide a safe space for client groups within the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community and increase safety, well‐being and mental wellness for Indigenous young women and girls, including those who have lived experience or witnessed trauma, experienced violencein their families and communities, and/or missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.


This role will also respect and protect the rights of clients, including but not limited to their right to independence, autonomy, and self‐determination; their right to choose and practice individual values, beliefs, and culture; and their right to privacy and dignity.


REQUIREMENTS

● Post-secondary degree or diploma in soical work or social schience or equivalent combination of trianing and experience.

● Minimum three (3) years experience working within the field of social services, or relevant role is considered an asset.

● Thorough knowledge and understanding of the culture, histories and oppression faced by people related to gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation within the 2SLGBTTQIA communitites. 

●  Demonstrated understanding of anti‐racism/anti‐oppressive perspectives and intersectionality.
●  Demonstrated cultural competency and flexibility in the provision of service to individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
●  Thorough knowledge of 2SLGBTTQIA+ resources and services within Ottawa‐Carleton region
●  Ability to establish healthy, caring and supportive professional relationships with clients that demonstrates trust, respect, dignity and inclusion.

● Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative and positive working relationships with colleagues,supervisors and community stakeholders to maintain a productive, professional and effective working environment.

●  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
●  Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
●  Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize assigned duties.
●  Must possess high standard of integrity and work ethic with the ability to handle confidential information.


RESPONSIBILITIES
●  Act as an advocate for the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community and provide safe space for clients and community members.
●  Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate client care and support in consultation with individuals and their families.
●  Ensure commitment to quality, client safety, and risk management initiatives.
●  Provide one‐on‐one and group support, education and counselling to clients and their families.
●  Implement programming that provides a safe and inclusive environment for the 2SLGBTQQIA+community.
●  Facilitate case management that enhances client’s service navigation, provides advocacy, and supportsclients with accessing and establishing community support.
●  Provide a high standard of case management with the ability to maintain client files, ability to prioritizetasks, maintain daily log, updated case file notes, service statistics, and meet reporting deadlines.
●  Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.
●  Maintain a professional image and demeanor with all employees, management, directors and visitorsat all times.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
●  Flexibility and adaptability are necessary in our fast‐paced organization.
●  Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
●  Work regular business hours with some overtime when required.
●  Evening and weekend work when necessary.
