Administrative Assistant, Chapter Support

AFOA Canada is the national centre for excellence and innovation in Indigenous management, finance and governance. Established in 1999, the Association is the only organization in Canada that focuses on the capacity development and day to day needs of Indigenous professionals working in all areas of management, finance and governance - today’s leaders and those of the future. 


AFOA Canada is looking for an energetic candidate to join the Training and Events team while working in a remote environment. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating meetings and conferences for AFOA Canada’s Chapters, including coordinating Chapter Board and Annual General meetings, conferences and training events. This could include liaising with venues, making travel arrangements and submitting expense claims, if required, and supporting the Chair to prepare and distribute agenda and materials for meetings. 


The Administrative Assistant, Chapter Support will assist with drafting and sharing AFOA Canada media posts on Chapter social media platforms. The incumbent will also assist the Chapter Board with submitting activity reports for AFOA Canada. 


THE CANDIDATE: 

Reporting to the Manager, Training and Events, the Administrative Assistant, Chapter Support will be a key member of the Training and Events team, bringing a strong client service focus.


  • Possess at a minimum a high school diploma and 1-2 years of related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Bilingual English-French would be considered a strong asset

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Working knowledge of an Indigenous language is desired

  • Basic mathematical ability is required

  • Attention to detail, thoroughness and organizational skills 

  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload 

  • Ability to take direction and be a team player

  • Experience working in a professional office environment 

This is a full-time permanent position at the AFOA Canada office in Ottawa, Ontario. This position may work remotely in which case there may be a requirement to work in the Ottawa office periodically. An attractive compensation and benefits package is offered for this position.
